I just got back from Pubcon 2007 in Vegas and thanks to Joe Morin we got free tickets to Cirque Du Soleil ‘KA’ at the MGM. The night started early as Mike and I had to get the tickets from Joe at 5:30. We didn’t want to get there late so about 5:00 we set out to his hotel. We were staying at the Renaissance near the convention center and Joe had the tickets at the Wynn. We could see the Wynn from our hotel and the nearest monorail station to the Wynn was also the one nearest to our hotel so we figured…let’s just walk. A straight line A to B would do just fine.

Looks pretty close right?
So we started out walking but were blocked by a ‘no pedestrians’ sign. Signs have never stopped me before so we just went around it. Next thing we know, we’re walking on some highway. It’s dark, cold, and cars are flying by at 70 mph. But we were getting closer to the hotel so we kept going…no turning back now. As we got closer, we realized the highway went under the strip and all we would see was walls, tunnels, and no way out. We saw a construction exit and had no choice…we went in. I felt like I was 17 again…breaking into construction sites. Things got pretty exciting as excuses raced through my mind (in case security caught up to us). We ended up walking through a golf course and finally in through an exclusive restaurant. All for this for ‘KA’ tickets. So anyway, we made it up to Joe Morin’s room to get the tickets. We were the first there. Joe had an awesome suite at the Wynn. The room had a living room, bar, massage room, and could house several large families from Guatemala (Guatemalans please send hate mail using form below).
Here is a picture in the Mike took with my cellphone.
So as we waited for the guy with the tickets to show up people started arriving. I asked Joe what was the most creative thing he ever did for a link and he told me his story about the Superbowl proposal. The story took about an hour for him to tell as he was constantly interrupted…receiving people, but I’m glad I insisted he finish…pretty amazing story of perseverance. ANYWAY…. we got the tickets and rushed to the MGM to see the show.
When we got there we realized how expensive tickets were, $150 bucks! Thanks again Joe. The show is worth about $200 but you only realize that when you leave. I had seen Cirque du Soleil ‘Alegria’ and thought I had overpaid when I dished out $70 a year or two earlier. The show is AMAZING.
First thing is that the entire theater is built for that show. The entire stage moves on some hydraulic platforms and at one point becomes completely vertical.

1Nice post. KA is great and worth it. Save it for something big like an anniversary trip or something due to the ticket prices… One night out at KA $300 + dinner = eeesh.
